Meltblown Absorbents

Meltblown absorbents are a reliable choice for effective spill control, and at FyterTech Nonwovens UK, we manufacture high-quality meltblown polypropylene absorbents right here in the UK.

Made from 100% polypropylene, meltblown absorbents are created through a process where the polymer is melted and then ‘blown’ into fine fibres using high-pressure air. This forms a non-woven material with a high-loft structure, which offers: excellent absorbency rates Strong durability, resistance to heat and tearing.

Oil only absorbents are hydrophobic, absorbing hydrocarbons while repelling water, making them ideal for oil spill recovery on open water and outdoor environments.

Maintenance (Universal) absorbents are hydrophilic and designed to absorb both oil-based and water based fluids, making them suitable for general industrial spill response.

Chemical absorbents are coloured yellow for clear identification when handling hazardous or unknown substances.

AdBlue absorbents are designed specifically for capturing diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) spills quickly and safely. AdBlue can crystallise as it dries, creating slip hazards and leaving residue.

Light ▰▱▱▱ Ideal for minor drips, wipe-downs and routine housekeeping where flexibility and cost control are priorities.

Medium ▰▰▱▱ Provides greater absorbency and durability for everyday leaks and maintenance tasks.

Heavy ▰▰▰▱ Offers higher fluid capacity and stronger construction, reducing the number of pads needed for larger spills.

Extra Heavy ▰▰▰▰ Deliver maximum absorption and retention for high-volume incidents where strength and reliability are critical.

Absorbent Construction

Our absorbent pads and rolls are available in a range of construction types and weights. How an absorbent is constructed will affect its durability, wicking performance (the rate at which fluid is drawn up in to the absorbent) and also its slip-resistance if being used as a floor covering.

Unbonded absorbents - Unbonded meltblown is made by simply melting a polypropylene resin, then blowing the resulting very fine fibres to form a continuous mat. The desired weight is accumulated in a single pass, and is then cut into pads or rolls. Unbonded absorbents offer fast absorption but limited durability; these absorbents are not perforated. Unbonded meltblown is only available in an oil only format.

Bonded absorbents - Bonded is made just like unbonded but in addition is passed through sonic heads. These sonic bond points fuse the fibres together at small points, (the area covered by these bond points is approximately 5% of the pad so it offers some effective lint control). This process makes the absorbent stronger.

Single laminated absorbents - A thin layer of spunbond material is sonically attached to the top surface of the meltblown core. This greatly reduces linting (fibres detaching easily) and improves strength. When used in roll format, it offers a significant advantage of being less slippery underfoot when the meltblown core is placed face down.

Double laminated absorbents - Double laminated meltblown absorbents consist of a meltblown polypropylene core sandwiched between two layers of spunbond material. Both the top and bottom layers are sonically bonded to the core, significantly enhancing durability, tear resistance, and lint control.
